When I am the happiest
I transport my body back to
the old hay bails behind my house.
The old straw cracking and snapping
under my bare inexperienced feet.
Mom tells me to watch for snakes
its not polite to jump on their homes.
Dad tells me to wear socks
you never know what you might step on.
As I climb the tall tall towering
hay bails I become something else.
Something powerful with the urge to explore
the unexplored.
master the
unmastered.
I lay across the dry straw.
It smells old - like an old bookstore
or my grandpa's tool shed.
I look up at the clouds forming images
in my head.
I am nine years young - and i've already conqured the world.
